Fine Bubble Diffusers
- Produce excess amount of tiny bubbles
- Rise gradually from floor of waste water treatment plant
- Bubbles diameter between 0 to 3 millimetres
- Results in effective transfer of oxygen to the water hence energy savings
- Presence of sewage and oxygen allow bacteria to harvest enzymes used in breaking down of waste
- Finer bubbles allow greater aeration efficiency
Coarse Bubble Diffusers
- Bubble diameter in between 3 to 50 millimetres
- Risk of plugging reduced
- Better mixing performance compared to fine bubble diffusers
- Surfactants inhibit the transfer of oxygen to the water
- Coarse bubbles rise too quick
- Surfactants have not enough time to create the barrier
